Flag football formats differ by league. The league's adopted rulebook always controls; use this checklist to prepare your mechanics and game-management routine before applying local rules.
Before kickoff
Confirm field boundaries, timing rules, down-and-distance format, rush rules, equipment standards, overtime, and who keeps the official score.
At every snap
Verify the ball is ready, count players, establish the line of scrimmage and rush marker, then watch the keys assigned to your position.
On a foul
Stop or continue the play as the local rule requires, communicate the foul clearly, enforce from the correct spot, and announce the result before the next ready-for-play.
Between downs
Confirm score, clock, down, distance, substitutions, and ball placement with the crew so small errors do not compound.
